Area Project

In June 2018 it was decided to have an area challenge spanning approximately nine months with finished items to be delivered in March 2019. Women’s Refuge was chosen to brighten up the lives of the women – they arrive with nothing so winter woolies are essential. “Operation Brighten” was born. Members were invited to produce warm items of clothing – scarves, hats, gloves, jerseys etc. The resulting 350 garments exceeded all my expectations.

On 30 March 2019 we handed over the items to Women’s Refuge. Each hand crafted item had a swing tag attached with information on how to take care of it. Dr Ang Dury, Head of Women’s Refuge, Ms Izzy Ford, Deputy Mayor Porirua, Judy Crestini, Manager, Porirua Refuge Centre, and Wellington MP Nicola Willis attended the hand over.
